With so many options for landscaping the perfect garden, some people may question whether natural stone is worth the extra cost and time to install. Is natural stone block really the best option? Can cheaper alternatives do the same job?
We don’t believe they can. In this article, we’re going to explore the distinct advantages of using natural stone for your patio.
Why Should I Use Natural Stone Paving for My Patio?
Gravel, cement, man-made porcelain, wooden decking… there are dozens of ways you can landscape your garden and make it more durable. So what makes natural stone the premier choice?
1. Natural Stone Block is Stunning
Natural stone is at home outdoors. It has an authentic and natural finish that brings life to a garden. What’s more, it can be styled in so many ways. Stone slabs of different shapes and sizes can be installed for a rustic country feel, or carefully sized and measured tiles can be laid for a modern and minimalist finish. Honey, black, grey, cream, tan…. There is no end of options for how you can use natural stone to give your garden a bespoke finish.
In addition, each natural stone block is completely unique. The composition and colouring of each slab of natural stone will be different from the last, creating a truly stunning collage of stone.
Take a look at our paving gallery to see how some of our customers have taken advantage of the beauty of natural stone.
2. Natural Stone is Durable
It can be incredibly disappointing to put time, money and effort into creating a beautiful garden that doesn’t last. Everything from weather to child’s play can damage softer materials such as plain grass or wooden decking. However, natural stone isn’t damaged by the weather and even the most boisterous children won’t chip our natural stone block.
Natural stone is scratch-resistant. And, what’s more, its natural weathering creates a non-slip surface, making natural stone block a safe and durable patio option.
3. The Lifespan of Natural Stone Outlasts Other Paving Options
Natural stone will last as long as it is properly maintained. Your paving will be in top condition for years to come when you choose natural stone. And, unlike other patio options which begin to look ragged and grimy over time, natural stone ages beautifully. Stone is naturally weather-resistant, meaning not even heavy rain or strong winds will take their toll.
4. Natural Stone Traps Heat
Everybody wants to enjoy the sun when it comes out – especially in Britain where sunshine is a real treat! The great thing about natural stone is that it absorbs heat and slowly releases it. This means when the sun comes out, you can make the most of it. Your garden will feel warmer for longer. Perfect for summer evenings.
5. Natural Stone Block is Low Maintenance
Grass needs to be mowed. Wooden decking needs to be painted. Most patio options take a lot of care.
However, natural stone is the exception. When treated with a proper sealant, natural stone becomes resistant to staining. This leaves it easy to clean with simple soap and warm water without the need for heavy scrubbing. But most of the time, a simple brush now and then will do the trick.
This makes natural stone a particularly great choice for people who don’t want to spend a lot of time maintaining their garden. Instead, you can simply enjoy the space without worrying about constant cleaning and repair.
6. Garden Walling Stone
To complement your patio, why not add some garden walling stone to create boundaries, beds and different sections within your garden. The addition of garden walling stone can really add the finishing touches to any garden design. Our walling stone is locally sourced and can be a great way to secure your property or to create distinct zoned areas.
Why Should I Use Stamford Stone as My Stone Supplier?
As we’ve shown here, natural stone makes for an attractive, long-lasting and fuss-free patio. But why choose Stamford Stone as your supplier for natural stone block?
1. Our Natural Stone is Sourced Ethically
Unfortunately, within our industry, there are many who don’t source their stone ethically. Especially when it comes to stone sourced from India and China; stone can be quarried by children as young as ten.
However, our stone is ethically sourced. All our natural stone is either sourced locally at one of our three Lincolnshire quarries, or imported from trusted global suppliers.
2. We Follow Environmentally Friendly Practices
We’re all about sustainability at Stamford Stone and adhere to a strict environmental policy. We recycle as much waste as possible and cut down on fuel emissions by ensuring stone block never travels more than 20 miles to its production site. 80% of our haulage is completed by our own fleet, which uses efficient and low-pollution Euro5 diesel engines. In addition, we harvest our rainwater and use an on-site water filtration plant which recycles 100% of the water used in production.
3. Stamford Stone is in the UK
You don’t have to go abroad to find the perfect stone for your patio. Stamford Stone is located in Lincolnshire. Why not visit our showroom and see for yourself?
4. We are Award Ready
Stamford Stone has recently been nominated in two categories at the 2020 Homebuilding and Renovating Awards. We have been shortlisted for both Best Flooring Supplier and Best Landscaping Supplier. We hope these nominations will raise greater awareness of the beauty and practicality of natural stone in building, landscaping and interior design.
