The hearth of your home
Since Georgian and Victorian times, fireplaces have traditionally included a mantle, a surround and a hearth. As well as providing a focal point for your room, the hearth’s role was also to protect you, catching any sparks or embers that might escape from the open fire.
Originally used for heating and cooking, the hearth has evolved into a beautiful decorative feature, bringing people together round a fire, sharing warmth and light and conversation.
Attractive yet durable
When you’re thinking about the right kind of material for your hearth, remember that it will need to be durable as well as aesthetically pleasing. It has a role to play in your home and will have to cope with logs, coal buckets, pokers and other fireside accessories on a regular basis. Make sure you choose a material that’s beautiful to look at as well as giving robust performance.
